MEASURE YOUR FIREPLACE Masonry & Manufactured Fireplaces Below are charts to measure your fireplace. For Ordering any fireplace product you should have as much information as possible. It will help greatly in choosing the correct size and also enables us to manufacture special products for a more snug fit, such as recessed screens, or custom enclosures. Different fireplaces have different requirements. Masonry (all brick) fireplaces and Fabricated fireplaces (Metal Box, Zero Clearance, Pre-Fabs) are the two main categories we primarily deal with. Masonry fireplace openings are pretty cut and dry as far as size. pay attention to the lintel bar that runs under the top coarse of brick. The brick, tile or marble opening is the important part but be aware of the lintel bar. How far back is it from the opening? Is the firebox lower than the hearth? Check out the pictures below. It's really easy.

Manufactured fireplaces are unique in the fact that to measure for glass doors and gas logs are different. To measure for gas logs the correct way is to measure the width at the front of the refractory panels at each side. As far as doors go the metal opening is the measurement to use. Other types of fireplaces are available such as masonry hybrids - heat forms and kits like Isomer's. Also there are metal units that are direct vent and vent-free boxes.
